Despite the difficulty in pinning down what happiness is and how to achieve it, HowStuffWorks.com has taken a stab at it in this article, in which they offer 10 key tips.
- Keep Happy People Around: Studies have shown that happiness is contagious. When someone’s friends or neighbors experience happiness, those positive feelings are often passed on to the people around them. Happy people also tend to cluster together in social groups.
- Exercise: Exercising lowers the body’s levels of cortisol, a hormone associated with stress. You may have also heard of endorphins. Exercise causes the pituitary gland to release these powerful, mood-boosting chemicals.
- Meditate: Some studies show that meditation improves happiness. Consequently, activities like meditation, yoga and practicing mindfulness may boost your level of happiness and satisfaction.
