10 Habits of the Prosperous

book_dbhWhat do the prosperous do that most people don’t? What are the beliefs and habits of the prosperous that allow them to accumulate wealth?

The following is an excerpt from the book DoesYour Bag Have Holes by Cameron C. Taylor.

1.  Clear Monitored Financial Goals — Charles Coonradt, author of The Game of Work wrote, “If you put one hundred people in a room and ask them how many would like to be financially independent, all the hands will go up. If you then ask them how many have a personal financial statement detailing assets, liabilities, and net worth that is current in the last ninety days . . . ninety of those hundred people will not raise their hands. If you ask those remaining ten people how many have that financial statement laid out in a pro forma goals format for one, three, five, ten and twenty year periods, nine of the people will sit down. The one still standing will be a millionaire”

2.  Delay Gratification — The prosperous have learned to resist the temptation to lose what matters most long-term for the short-term pleasure of something now.

3.  Value Financial Independence — The prosperous enjoy the security and independence of owning their possessions more than social praise and status.

4.  Live Below Income — For every $10 the prosperous make they spend $7. For every $10 dollars the poor make, they spend $13.

5.  Save Money for Tomorrow — Many spend tomorrow’s resources for today’s pleasures. The financially independent save and invest today’s money for tomorrow.

6.  Earn Interest — Interest is a very powerful tool that either builds or diminishes wealth. Those who understand interest earn it and those who don’t understand interest pay it.

7.  Pay Themselves First — You can become financially independent simply by paying 10 percent of your income to savings and investments first, and then living on the rest.

8.  Buy Wholesale — You can greatly decrease your expenses by learning how to buy items at wholesale and by always asking for a discount.

9.  Create Gold-Laying Goose — The prosperous create a gold-egg-laying goose (assets with passive income) and then live on the eggs. Those who have reached the ranks of prosperity have learned that money is of a prolific generating nature.

10. Master of Money — A 17th Century Proverb states, “If money be not thy servant, it will be thy master.” The prosperous have their money work for them, while the poor work for money.

Prayer for More Prosperity

E291A638483C45838D6D08D15537D247.ashxMany people pray for more money and prosperity to come into their lives, but it often comes across with a desperate energy.

By contrast, a gratitude prayer for increased prosperity can put you in the right frame of mind to receive it.

This one comes from Money Coach Lorraine Edey.

Dear God My Eternal Source:

I am so grateful for all that you
provide for me. I am truly blessed and know that you are my Source.

~ I believe that I can affect the
prosperity that shows up in my life.

~ I desire to experience that
prosperity can come from unexpected sources.

~ I desire to believe that good things
can come to me through ‘play’ and ‘flow’ rather than only
through hard work.

~ I desire evidence that there is a
practical strategy around creating prosperity that provides tangible

~ I desire evidence that the idea of
‘creating prosperity from the inside-out’ is not just wishful

I trust that you will show me
observable and quantifiable proof that I can attract more prosperity

I am open to this prosperity arriving
and taking the form of:

~ unexpected money coming into my life
this month

~ unexpected gifts coming my way this

~ clear inspiration leading me to new

~ total release fear, stress, sadness
or discomfort

~ clarity in everything I do

~increase revenue in my business and

~clear inspiration for that which is
for my highest good

~clear inspiration leading to a
business partner

I am ready for a breakthrough. I am
ready to see things with new eyes, so that I
can enjoy my life to the fullest.

And so it is, it cannot be otherwise.

Attract Money and Prosperity

money magnet how toPretty much everything you want to accomplish in life boils down to changing your thoughts, feelings and habits. Doing the same thing will always bring the same results, but doing things differently can change your path.

Here are some interesting exercises to help you attract money.

By altering your thoughts, actions and energy  you can enable yourself to attract success and become a magnet for money.

3 Ways To Increase Prosperity:

  1. Change your thoughts and actions.  The way in which you think about money and your success will have an affect on how you receive money.   Your energy is a key factor in determining your financial prosperity.  When you switch your thoughts and energy from the negatives such as “I will never have enough money” or “I can’t afford my bills” to “I am happy with what I have” and “I will have an abundance of financial stability”, you are creating gratitude and opening up yourself to receiving money.
  2. Practice the “$5” rule.  Take all your $5 bills and put them into red envelope.  Follow this technique for 3 -5 months for all $5 bills come your way.  Then apply half towards a needed loan and half towards a needed vacation.

365 Ways to Get Rich (Part 2)

We shared the first 20 tips from Forbes on how to get rich in a previous post.

This is something that many people want but few know how to do.

Now here are the next 20…

When the bear charges, stand your ground.

For protection from inflation and currency devaluation, buy the “gold you can eat”—farmland.

Know your risk tolerance. Pick an asset allocation that lets you sleep at night, so you won’t panic and sell stocks at the bottom.

Don’t keep too much in cash equivalents—over time, this “safe” investment barely keeps up with inflation.

After setting an asset allocation, rebalance yearly;  it forces you to take profits when stocks have surged and to buy more shares when they’re cheap.

Benjamin Graham: “Adopt simple rules and stick to them.”

Buy Bitcoin as a speculation or political statement, not a hedge.

The Forbes E-book On Bitcoin Secret Money: Living on Bitcoin in the Real World, by Forbes staff writer Kashmir Hill, can be bought in Bitcoin or legal tender.

Be a tax-smart investor. Hold taxable bonds in a 401(k) or IRA. Put individual stocks in taxable accounts so you can sell losers to harvest tax losses.

Pay attention to the IRS’ wash sale rule when harvesting capital losses.

Don’t invest in a hedge fund unless its audited results are reported in compliance with Global Investment Performance Standards.

Build an emergency fund outside your 401(k).

For the biggest tax break when donating collectibles to charity, make sure they’ll be displayed and not sold.

Put alternative investments like real estate (but never collectibles) in your IRA.

Burton Malkiel: “All index funds are not created equal. Some have unconscionably high expenses.”

Keep an eye on—but don’t obsess over—mutual fund fees and expenses.

Even committed indexers should use actively managed funds to buy municipal and high-yield bonds and value stocks.

Yield is nice, but total return is the metric that matters.

Gold is overrated as an inflation hedge—historically, its price moves are unrelated to inflation.

For inflation protection, buy floating-rate corporate bonds.

Don’t let the mood swings of Mr. Market coax you into speculating.

18 Ways to Increase Your Wealth

Prosperity TipsIf you’re looking for ways to increase your wealth and prosperity, much of it is about mindset and habits. And often entrepreneurship is one of the keys.

Here are 18 tips for increasing your wealth and prosperity:

18 Prosperity Tips

1. Instead of focusing on trying to make money, put your time and energy into creating value for others. Remember that money is simply a medium for exchanging value. Stop focusing on the effect (receiving money), and start focusing on the cause (value creation).

2. Start a business as a way to share your passion, your talents, and your knowledge with the rest of the world. Ask yourself how you can express your talents in a way that benefits others.

3. Stop thinking of what you can “get” from others (how much money you can make), and start focusing on what you can give (how you can increase the amount of value that you give to others).

4. Do your work with love. Just as resentment poisons your work, doing your work with love adds more value to it. There’s a novel titled “Like Water For Chocolate” by Mexican novelist Laura Esquivel. The protagonist, Tita, is a woman who loves to cook. When she cooks, her emotions become infused into her cooking, affecting all those who eat it. Think of the work that you do in the same way, and make sure that you infuse it with love.

5. Look for ways to have a positive impact on society through your business.

6. During times of recession people cut back on the fluff and they become more sensitive to receiving genuine value. This means that if you sell fluff, you’ll do poorly in a recession. But if you’re providing genuine value you should do fine, even if the pundits are running around screaming that the sky is falling.

7. Stop looking for happiness outside of yourself—for example, stop thinking the following: “I’ll be happy when I have six months of expenses saved up in the bank, and when I can finally move out of this dingy apartment”. Instead, tap into the happiness that is already within you and let it flow from you through your work.

8. Be optimistic. Believe that something different from what has happened until now can happen.

9. Ask yourself the following question: When I imagine totally diving in and working hard to make more money, what thoughts pop into my mind that make me feel that I’m not going to succeed? These are your limiting beliefs; work on eliminating them.

10. Make a list of the reasons why you think that you’re not making as much money as you would like to be making. These are your excuses. Stop making excuses.

11. If you feel that you’re creating value, but you’re not making money, it’s because of one of two reasons:

a. Others don’t perceive what you’re offering as being valuable. They’re telling you, “That’s not good enough”, or “That’s not what we want.” You need to go back to the drawing board with that feedback and improve your offer.

b. You’re not doing a good job of delivering the value. For example, if you have a blog and you produce great content, but you have low traffic, you’re not doing a good job of delivering the value.

12. If people don’t want to buy what you’re selling—or they don’t want to buy it at the price that you’re selling it for—don’t take it personally. This is the marketplace responding to what you’re putting out there: it’s simply the laws of supply and demand playing out. Modify your offer accordingly.

Six Killer Apps of Prosperity

Why has such a disproportionate amount of wealth and prosperity been created in the Western world? Well, historian Niall Ferguson has studied the phenomenon and thinks he knows the answer, which he explains in this TEDTalk in Edinburgh, Scotland:

Over the past few centuries, Western cultures have been very good at creating general prosperity for themselves. Historian Niall Ferguson asks: Why the West, and less so the rest? He suggests half a dozen big ideas from Western culture — call them the 6 killer apps — that promote wealth, stability and innovation. And in this new century, he says, these apps are all shareable.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the “Sixth Sense” wearable tech, and “Lost” producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts.

The six “killer apps” he outlines are competition, the scientific revolution, property rights, modern medicine, the consumer society, and the work ethic. What do you think? Leave your comments and thoughts below…

Increase Prosperity Through Hypnosis

Many people recommend affirmations for changing your life around. The problem is that you say affirmations on a conscious level, and if the words you say don’t resonate with your subconscious, you’re in for an internal war… and possibly the opposite effect of what you wanted.

So why not go straight to the subconscious level? Great idea.

This dual-track brainwave hypnosis audio must be used with stereo headphones. The suggestions in it are printed below, and they’re very good — the wording is such that both your conscious and subconscious minds are very likely to accept them as truth. That’s because they’re primarily based on progression rather than an absolute truth that you might not believe.

Focus on Abundance and Prosperity

moneyAs Lisa Nichols pointed out in the movie The Secret (the second version, when she replaced Esther Hicks in a re-edit):

“When you focus on lack and scarcity and what you don’t have, you fuss about it with your family, you discuss it with your friends, you tell your children that you don’t have enough — ‘We don’t have enough for that, we can’t afford that’ — then you’ll never be able to afford it, because you begin to attract more of what you don’t have. If you want abundance, if you want prosperity, then focus on abundance. Focus on prosperity.”

The point is, what you focus on is what becomes a bigger part of your reality — whether it’s poverty or prosperity, lack or abundance.

Sound woo-woo? Well, sometimes it’s presented that way, but it really isn’t.

If you’d rather think of this in more concrete terms, remember the last time you really wanted something. Maybe it was a certain make of car… and then all of a sudden you would see it everywhere. It wasn’t that the car manufacturer suddenly started making more, or just happened to sell more in your area. It was simply that you were focused on that make of car because you wanted one, and therefore you noticed it more.

As a result, you would also pay more attention to sales or deals that would allow you to get that car faster and more easily.

Now here’s the catch: it’s all about your emotions as you think about this thing.

So if you’re focused on the car but it makes you sad, angry or frustrated because all you can think about is how expensive it is and how you’ll never be able to get one, then you probably won’t — just like Nichols said. But if you feel excited and joyful about the prospect of owning it one day, then sooner or later you probably will.

Feeling grateful for what you have and what you someday will have is a good way to keep your emotions on track.

Another good trick is, when you find yourself thinking “I’ll never have…” shift it to “Someday I could have…” And since you’re using the word “could,” there’s very little for your subconscious mind to argue with there.

5 Steps to a Prosperity Mindset

17201_152061608296343_1958077930_nThe truth is, you can’t accomplish much without the right mindset. Your roots produce your fruits.

So when it comes to being more prosperous, in any area of life, the first question to ask yourself is how you can shift your mindset from poverty to prosperity.

Life coach and Master NLP practitioner Tim Lumsden has come up with 5 Easy Steps to do just that:

If you don’t already have a prosperity mindset, it might be a hard thing to imagine. It’s a way of approaching your life so that you consciously and subconsciously work to improve all aspects of your life health, wealth, love, and everything else you desire. You can create this critical change in your mindset in these five steps.

1. Study the Actions of Successful People.  Perhaps this is the most important suggestion. Learn by example. Find someone successful whom you admire and do what they do. These individuals serve as proof that your dreams can come true.  Find someone who has had the same kind of success that you desire.  Study what they’ve done right as well as their mistakes. It’s always easier when we have an example to follow. Find a way to ask successful people questions. You might be surprised to know that successful people love to inspire others to find success as well. They know that there’s plenty of success to go around. That’s the prosperity mindset in action!

2. Develop a Positive Self-Image.  If you believe in yourself, you can achieve your dreams. The moment you think you can’t do something, you can’t. You know that negative feelings arise from time to time and that’s okay. However, you need to keep a positive image of the big picture in your mind at all times.  Picture yourself reaching your goals and imagine how it feels.  Surround yourself with positive people.  Write prosperity affirmations.  Be an open person.  When you open up to new opportunities, you open up to prosperity. Stay motivated and don’t be afraid of change.

3. Setting Your Goals and Action Plans.  You can dream all day about where you’d like your life to go, but without a goal or an action plan nothing will happen. Take time to think about the big picture and then draw in the details of how you’re going to get there.  Break down your goals into smaller steps.  Set manageable and achievable goals.  Stick to your plan whenever possible.
